Zach Dembo, David Kloiber, Erin Petrey and former State Rep. Cherlynn Stevenson are vying to replace Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, who is vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate.

The candidates covered health care, home affordability, tariffs and other key topics.

“We need to lean into diplomacy, especially in the region, and we also need to ensure that an executive can no longer submit any sort of orders for this type of sweeping action on a military stance,” Petrey said.

Petrey said she is the only candidate not taking any corporate money and was framed as a “progressive.” 

Calling for tax code reform, universal healthcare and abolishing ICE, Petrey’s policies include banning venture capital and private equity from being able to own single-family homes, incentivizing cities to invest in rezoning and affordable housing construction, increasing the federal minimum wage and reinstating DEI.

Erin Petrey, who grew up in Kentucky and worked in Washington, D.C., announced her bid for the Central Kentucky U.S. House district Wednesday morning. The current seatholder, Republican U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, is seeking election to the U.S. Senate in 2026.
